To jmichaelma: My wife bought herself one. It works. We have not been able thought to replace Vista with XP. The only way it seem to be possible was to reformat hard drive. For some reason (on purpose?) the computer refused to read CD/DVD so we couldnt install XP. I installed DOS on the discette (i still keep it), 98 on it and then XP

This computer is a really good bang for your buck. It's cheap and it has everything a normal consumer wants on his/her computer. The functions of this everyday computer is unmatchable to the other more expensive but yet less effective computers

I currently have a Compaq 5BW130 (refurbished); and it has been great. It was purchased through Tiger Direct. I've had it for 7 years already; and it hasn't had any repairs. The only things I have done to it are add another, larger hard drive and upgraded to Windows XP Pro from Windows 98 Special Edition.
My son is getting me another refurbished computer for Christmas; and I am probably going to get this one. I have some worries about the Vista OS; but I own my own copy of Windows XP Pro if that is a problem.

I was very disappointed.
Be VERY wary of buying a Compaq refurb--the one I bought quit working the third day, HP/Compaq had me send it in for service and they also said I only had 6 days left on the warranty!!! Got it back, again it quit the first day with the same problem. This time they also said I had to send it back for repair. They said I should buy extended coverage and they assured me this time it would be fixed! I said screw that and fixed it myself. Great way to force people to buy extended coverage--don't fix the problem until the warrenty is running out! I will NEVER buy another HP/Compaq refurbished PC, I will most likely never buy another HP/Compaq of any kind!
