Ultra 3.5" Mini Portable USB 2.0 / Firewire External Hard Drive Enclosure

Simple to install and simple to use. What i really like about this product is teh fan built in to keep the harddrive cool, plus nice big LED lights so you are aware of the progress of what you are working on. Ultra always makes some of the best products. I have always been pleased with them.

Nice Enclosure. Very easy to setup and use. I purchased the combo deal with the 500GB Seagate drive and found it a little difficult to make the drive line up with the mounting holes. I had to massage the power and the IDE cables a bit to loosen them up so the HDD holes lined up with the mounts. I was concerened at first, but all is well now. Great product

Got it for $5 bucks, so I can't complain much. The fan does get noisy and annoying. Have to smack the crap out of it multiple times to silence it. My first HD in it died, but they may have been coincidence. Currently housing a SGT 320GB. Overall OK, but cheap, junky plastic casing.

Very easy to setup and install. Enclosure keeps my WD 250GB drive nice and cool.... only problem, is the little fan sounds like a jet engine after about 1 month of use. Have to replace the fan, but other than that, it works great.

I had purchased one of these a long while ago when they were still $50. I had it hooked up to a Win98SE machine (upgraded to XP Pro). Regrettably, the hardware wouldn't recognize the Firewire, and through USB had to reactivate the HD (300GB Maxtor) inside every time I booted up. So that was a PC issue, not enclosue issue. After a hardware upgrade, it worked beautifully. The only real issue I had was that after a while the cooling fan started squealing. Turns out that somehow the case was squeezing it, because it wouldn't squeal when operating with the enclosure opened. And I thought the LED's might be a little excessively bright, but I suppose it depends on your layout (and light levels). Currently it's only being used to test other drives, since I was able to upgrade my secondary IDE card to allow the installation of drives bigger than 127GB(?) and install the 300GB Maxtor and an additional Maxtor at 250GB inside my pc. I gave it a knock on value mostly due to my cost - not worth $50.
