The camera offers superb quality in both amateur and professional photography. For a beginner photo buff, the camera is perfect. It lets you change options or leave on auto for best photo output.

I have had this camera now for severl months. It is by far the best camera I have ever owned. Easy to use with tons of features. I also have added an Olympus High Grade 1.7x Teleconverter Lens. If you really want to take some great close ups, go with this lens, it's truly amazing. You will be hard pressed to find a better digital camera than this one.

Great camera for the price! I have a significant knowledge on the use of cameras (enough to use manual mode most of the time as i'm not satisfied with the auto features on cameras) and I made this purchase as the best ''compromise.'' It is one because this is the best camera without going DSLR...great zoom, no bulky lenses to carry, can focus on anything right up to the lense...overall you can't beat this even with an DSLR unless you are willing to carry a bookbag with lenses and other equipment...only thing lacking is RAW...one of the only negative comments is that any ISO rouchly above 200-300 becomes relatively noisy...1600 is unusable

Camera performs well except it is slightly slow when auto focusing. My power switch failed two months into ownership. Sent it to Cannon and they fixed it super fast for no charge. Overall, the best camera without going SLR.

Bought it before Christmas 07,l have take over 3000 pics. Pros: excellent image quilaity, tons of features, can be put into manual mode for full control, video quality is also great for a point and shoot (the best I have seen). Cons: with wide-angle shots on high contrast subjects (i.e., brights sunny landscapes) you can notice some color fringing when blown up; no low-res option for video (great quality but they take a TON of memory, like .75 meg per second at the lowest resolution, so you do the math - keep you vids short!). Overall I am very happy with this purchase. I now however I am so jazzed about photography I want a true DLSR and a new laptop to run Photshop - a money pit this hobby is ; )

This is a true ''semi-professional'' digital camera equiped with features that come frighteningly close to mirroring the options found on pricier SLRs! Some people complain that the S5 is a bit bulky and heavy, but such people do not understand digital photographic technology. Typically, the heavier the camera, the larger the CMOS sensor that processes the images. Larger CMOS sensors create sharper, higher-quality colors and less noise and image bleeding. Megapixels alone are not everything. When you buy those tiny, compact cameras that boast 12 megapixels, they have tiny sensors to go with them, and the image processing is below average. It doesn't matter how many megapixels you have if the sensors are junk! The result: Crappy image processing looks crappy at ANY megapixel! On the other hand, the large DIGIC III processor within this Canon ensures TRUE IMAGE PROCESSING that is also found in pricier SLRs. The 8 megapixels this baby spits out destroys the 12 found on compact models!

There is nothing but good things I can say about this Camera. After my husband wanted one for Christmas I did a lot of research and then ended up ordering two of them... Momma wanted one too! The camera is very easy to use. Takes fantastic pictures with a lot of detail and we haven't even started playing with the settings. We most certainly recommend this camera!

I've had it for about a week, and only taken about 100 pictures, but it is far and away the best camera with the most features. As a backup to an SLR it's fine, but in a lot of ways it replaces the SLR. I would suggest a polarizing filter for it tho. Makes daytime shots nicer. The quick pop-off lenscap may annoy some, but it protects the motor from overwork.

This is an awesome camera, ive had it for a few weeks and taken maybe 300 pics so far. theres a ridiculous amount of options and features on it that i still have to learn. but for a camera with all these features it is pretty easy to use right out of the box. Im going to dive into the instruction book though to make sure i use the camera to its full capabilities.

I just received this camera and even though I'm no professional this camera is a vast improvement over my old digital camera. The picture quality is excellent and even though it has more features than your weekend photographer may use it is worth the money.
