This Everex notebook is a fine machine. The screen is crisp, the performance good, and everything about it suggests a nice quality notebook. The 17'' screen is a monster and great to work with. All the various peripherals (seemingly) work perectly, too. Interestingly enough, however, when first out of the box this machine failed repeatedly, shutting itself down with various dire messages. I ended up calling Everex's 24/7 help line at 11pm but another family phone call caused me to disconnect before my call got through the waiting period. I tried restarting the system with the included ''recovery'' disk about five or six times, and each time it failed again (often with a new error message each time.) Actually, it was the changing error message that gave me hope and about the sixth time (I started the recovery again the next morning) the ding-dang thing loaded up without any errors and worked like a champ since. Not a purchase for the faint-of-heart, but finally a great buy!

wow that's all i know how to say wow i was real skeptical on buying an offbrand pc let alone it being a laptop, which im not to fond of in the first but its a long story about how i came to it. ive read numerous reviews before i purchased this bad boy and now none of them even compare to what i think of it . theres actually 512mb video memory because 256mb is shared, remember that......the screen is to die for.....def. add a 2nd gig of ram, its vista come on you need at least 2gb........i have lots of music so the hdd could be a little bigger but thats what the external is for right........many say they dont like the keyboard set up but i find the num pad a great help because im used to using that instead of the other keys. most issues that arise with vista being taken care of in updates so dont worry .....i didnt like vista when i first used it but once i got this and played around with it i am very pleased with it.

You have to run either XP 64 or Vista 64 in order for it to recognize 4GB of memory.Runs hot , use rnclock to fix that..

For the person who added the 3MB stick of RAM there are two things to keep in mind: 1) Vista doesn't acknowledge more than 3.1MB of RAM (hopefully to be corrected in a service pack) 2) In order to take advantage of the dual channel features you need to have the same size DIMM in each module (i.e., 1 MB and 1MB, 2 MB and 2MB). If you put diffent sized DIMMS the OS will ignore the smaller stick and use only the larger one, in this case the 3MB one.

I bought this laptop after reading hundreds of reviews on it from a competing american seller, as well as reviews from various forums. I will have to agree with the numerous people out there that this laptop is an amazing value for the price. Build quality is superb, the speakers with sub are amazing, and goodness the screen is to die for. It is superior to my 1.5 yr old samsung 19 inch, with super black blacks and dazzling whites. The glare from the glossy screen is very minimal/not noticeable compared to other kinds such as Truelife from Dell. Gaming wise, I fired up battlefield 2 and it ran smooth as a hot knife through butter with all eye candy on the highest res. It is comparable to my desktop 7600gt. I actually like gaming on here better than my pc! I have had no issues with this machine except for the realtek hd audio, i enabled the EQ settings and it distorted the sound. Leave it off for crystal clear sound with touches of bass. Highly recommended!!!
