Compact Body, Full Specs
The 7.1 megapixel CCD records a wealth of detail - enough to let you enlarge and crop at will. Images are rich and sharp with lifelike depth. The camera's Genuine Canon 3x optical zoom not only gets you in close, but performs with all the clarity and brilliance you'd expect from the world's leader in advanced optics technology.
Advanced Imaging Technology
With DIGIC III, you get images of superior quality, the camera functions at top efficiency and battery life is significantly enhanced. What's more, DIGIC III enables Canon's newly improved Face Detection Technology and Red-eye Correction to give you better, more true-to-life people shots.
Face Detection AF/AE
Detail
DIGIC III features Face Detection AF/AE, which finds multiple faces in the frame and sets the most suitable focus point, when the shutter button is pressed halfway. And an additional feature, Face Detection FE adjusts the flash, based on a person's face on the screen. Exposure and flash are controlled to ensure proper illumination of both the faces and the overall scene, eliminating the common problem of darkened or overexposed faces.
Print and Share
The PowerShot SD1000 Digital ELPH's Print/Share button makes direct printing easier than ever. Simply connect the SD1000 Digital ELPH to a Canon CP, SELPHY or PIXMA Photo Printer or any PictBridge compatible photo printer, press the lighted Print/Share button and print! Also use the Print/Share button to transfer images to a computer (Windows® and Macintosh®).
Superior Color Reproduction.
iSAPS Technology is an entirely original scene-recognition technology developed
for digital cameras by Canon. Using an internal database of thousands of
different photos, iSAPS works with the fast DIGIC III Image Processor to
improve focus speed and accuracy, as well as exposure and white balance.
Shooting and Color Modes
With 21 shooting modes, you're ready for whatever shot comes your way. For example, 10 Special Scene modes make many challenging shots
like snow, beach and fireworks easy, and even include Color Accent and Color Swap to let you customize and play with color.

if you love taking pictures and don't get paid for it, get this camera. screen looks fantastic, speed is decent, photo quality is more than enough for me, videos look good, has worlds of features that i hope i can learn to use one day, and battery life is great IMO (i'm not all that attentive to charging the thing but i've never had it run out of juice). in addition, and perhaps most importantly, it's tough. a couple weeks after i got it, a negligent friend of mine left it sitting screen-side-down in a puddle of beer. the screen looks a little... odd now, but pics are still perfectly viewable and performance did not diminish. general use is plenty intuitive (very rare) and lens guard flaps have held up brilliantly (also rare)

MEGAPIXELS AND PHOTO PRINT SIZE
The
photo print quality of your images depends on the camera's "megapixel
rating." The higher number of pixels your camera has, the higher the resolution
(or sharpness) of your images---and the larger your prints can be without
quality loss.
Digital Camera Flash Storage
Capacities
* Average file size
using cameras highest resolution JPEG mode. Actual number of
photos, songs, and minutes will vary depending on camera/device model,
format resolution and compression, usable capacity, and bundled software.
Actual usable memory capacity may vary. 1MB equals 1 million bytes; 1GB
equals 1 billion bytes.
NUMBER OF IMAGES STORED ON A DIGITAL CARD The number of
pictures you can take varies depending on your camera model and complexity
of the scene being photographed. To calculate how many pictures your card
can hold, divide the capacity of your card by the average file size of your
images. For example, if you have a 256MB card, and use a camera that has an
average file size of 1.2MB, then 256 divided by 1.2 gives you approximately
213 pictures. As you change modes on your camera, the number of images will
increase if you shoot in a lower resolution mode, and decrease if you shoot
in a higher resolution mode.
