I have used this KVM for setting up 8 new computers now using the 4 ports. My observations with this were that the keyboard or mouse would either not come up on boot or one or the other would freeze when logged on. This happened on all ports all computers at times. What worked for me was to unplug the USB for the keyboard and mouse from the port it was in and plug it into a different USB Port on the computer and it would continue to work fine for a time. Glad I only needed it for this project.

Be sure it is compatible with your computers

If your computers are compatible with this unit, it is a great one. Beautiful video quality, great sound, and quick switching. But if your computer needs to see its mouse or keyboard on boot, or if the computer in port number one is turned off, you may have difficulty getting a computer that needs to see its keyboard to boot properly. I had this problem. The KVM is now back on its box, on a shelf, and I cannot use it. Perhaps in some number of years if I have computers that are compatible with it I can use it. Meanwhile I will probably give it away. Self-powered KVM's are likely more compatible with more computers, but I have not tested that assertion. Again, great gadget if it works for you. It does not work for me!

IT was easy to set up , but after that the product is useless. Audio quality is choppy, hard to understand and the coreds for the audio are too short. I am only able to use 2 of my three computers with this switch. The 3rd one is 5 years old. It will only work if I have it on the first port. But if I do this, I have to turn it on so I I can use the other 2 computers. When switching between computers, it takes around 5 to 10 seconds to be able to use the keyboard and mouse.

Not Compatible with All Computers

This was an upgrade from a 2 port Trendnet. For some reason, a Dell laptop that worked on the 2 port version would not work on this one. Frustrating. My two desktop's running Windows and Linux had no problems. Trendnet's help desk finally stated there was an incompatibility without determining the incompatibility. I'm returning it and looking for a different vendor.

I wish I bought this version

I bought the TK 407 which is the same without audio because it was on sale and I was uninformed of the audio version. This switch is my third and it is AWESOME. It's reliable which beats my old IOGEAR hands down, that thing hung up 3 - 5 times a week making me unplug it from each device and plug it back in to reset it. The Belkin KVM I had was reliable but took almost 10 seconds to switch which was a major pain. This switch works in 1-3 seconds and has not given me a fit yet. I too wish the layout was a little more convenient. Plus I have a desk full of monitors and do not need the video feature either. I wish they would make a KM switch version with just USB cables to each PC. I don't see anyone selling such a device yet.
