Cisco WRVS4400N Wireless N VPN Router Product Details
Cisco WRVS4400N Wireless N VPN Router
The growth in mission critical, high bandwidth applications, such as storage and voice in the work place, has made network performance and security essential. With the introduction of 802.11n, wireless technology is no longer lagging behind wired performance. The Cisco Business Series WRVS4400N wireless router answers the growing business' need for access, speed and security.
The WRVS4400N implements draft 802.11n (Wireless-N) technology with a Virtual Private Network (VPN) Router that features a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet switch. By overlaying the signals of multiple radios, Wireless-N's "Multiple In, Multiple Out" (MIMO) technology multiplies the effective data rate resulting in greater throughput and coverage over 802.11g. Unlike ordinary wireless networking technologies that are confused by signal reflections, MIMO actually uses these reflections to increase the range and reduce "dead spots" in the wireless coverage area. At the same time, Wireless-N is backwards compatible with Wireless-B and -G devices.
The WRVS4400N has incorporated advanced firewall and intrusion prevention (IPS) features to secure your network from external threats, including worms, DDoS attacks, and viruses. The VPN tunnels gives your mobile workers a secure and easy to use way to stay connected. In addition, the VPN "gateway to gateway" IPSec tunnels facilitates branch office connectivity through encrypted virtual links. The integrated QoS features provide consistent voice and video performance on both the wired and wireless networks, enabling the deployment of business quality VoIP and video applications.
The Cisco Small Business Series is the affordable, reliable, high quality networking solution that helps you do business smarter. Our systems ensure maximum application availability enabling you to meet corporate governance and business continuance requirements. Secure and easy to install and maintain, it’s built to grow with your business.

Excellent
I've had absolutely no issues with router. I did have problems trying wireless to another brand with regular or access point mode. Units will do it, but say you need specific units of the same brand. Likely a security feature. Manufacturer would not want other brand creating a weakness. Concerning dropping of connections. Believe this to be a security feature. Old unit allowed the turning off, completely, of automatically issuing new IP's. You can adjust the time frame of it using the same IP, but the maximum, default is 24 hours as I recall. It would seem that the only way to constantly keep the same IP assigned to a unit is to use static IP. Extra configuration and defeats the security of changing IP. Change interval may be as low as hour, your choice. If your necessities are to have a frequently changing IP, it would likely be less trouble to run a radius server or software. Lots of features. Not an el cheapo.

Quick VPN
To all those who wrote a review before me and said they could not get Quick VPN to work on Windows 7, they are idiots. Quick VPN does work on Windows 7 and I had Quick VPN on my Windows 7 computer even before I got this router.

VPN On Mac OS, Buy Something Else
as a wireless-N router, its fine. As a VPN server for remote users. If you are not running Windows XP or 2000, that is. Quick VPN Client from cisco, is not available for windows 7 and Mac OS X 10.7. Making this very difficult to set up and use. Also, it does not support anything other then IPSec VPN, so no built in windows or mac protocol will work. It also does not support IOS (ipad and iphone devices.) Overall, I think this is a disaster for VPN.
