Thermal Electric Cooler
A TEC (thermo-electric cooler) also known as a "Peltier Cooler," is a solid-state active heat pump capable of transferring heat from one side of the device to the other. Ultra uses a TEC sandwiched between two aluminum plates, each plate with four heat-pipes leading to a large, fan cooled radiator. Because TEC's are capable of cooling below room temperature, often condensation is a concern. But not with the Ultra Chill-TEC. The Chill-TEC's control unit does not apply power to the TEC unless the CPU reaches a certain temperature. Up to this point, the CPU is cooled by the heat-pipes on the "cold" side of the TEC. Once the CPU is hot, power is applied to the TEC and the CPU is chilled. The hot side of the TEC is cooled by the second set of heat-pipes. This perfect balance of thermo-electric cooling and heat-pipe cooling ensures the CPU is kept at the perfect operating temperature. Ideal for hardcore use, it even allows the potential for overclocking, which standard air cooling alone cannot provide.

My processor fan keep my computer running at about 77F consistently, unless I am running several programs at once. This is colder than my house in the summer time. I also like that it displays the temperature and how many hours it has run total and this session. Over 4000 hours and still keeping it nice and cool
I must have gotten a defective one

I have ruined 2 mobos with this fan. I did exactly as instructed; both mobos now are fried. Luckily they are under warranty and ASUS rules about it. I would not recommend, personally, but the other reviewers seem happy about it, so maybe I was just unlucky.

This cooler looks awesome and does a excellent job of keeping my Quad cool during serious load... as taxed on OCCT. I built a HTPC and inside my rigg things are VERY tight so installing this cooler was a bitch! Had to modify its install leaving out the mounting springs because it was just too hard to compress them down with really no finger room to compress and secure the screws. I built my rig not realizing how big this cooler was going to be, and already mounted my MOBO to my rig. So I left out the springs, and since my rigs stance isn't verticle the cooler sits just fine without the springs. ''So some advice... mount your cooler first before attaching your mobo to your rig!''
My only other complaint is noise factor! It hums low and high constantly unless your taxing your CPU, then its a constant hum. At first I thought it wasn't normal for the constant humming, so I tried to adjust the it in Bios, doesn't matter it still hums, so just get use to it like the sound of a HEMI

Pros.- You can't go wrong buying this cpu cooler for the money you spend! It works fantastic and it does the job.
Cons.- I'm not happy with the mounting "spring loaded??"

Installed mine with a new build, has never let the temp get above 84 deg F on the display. Right now it's running 77F/25C on the display while CPUTemp.exe says 69/22, 67/21, 67/18 & 62/15 F/C.
The little working guy that represents the CPU workload doesn't help me at all, I have to stare at it to even notice any difference in load. There's a system total up time meter that displays the cumulative time the systems been on and then there's a session timer too. The actual cooler is kinda cheap feeling and seemed like it would fall apart, but it's still in one piece and working great! The fan does drop to low and back up to medium very often, and it has moved to the top of my annoying things about using this computer in a quiet environment. Going to connect the fan to a fan controller in the near future.
