Had no problems installing a 2 tbyte WD drive and hooking up to 3.0 usb port on new Win 7 pro XPS 8700 desktop.

Clarification: this IS Windows 8 compatible

Hey everyone, Just wanted to clarify something. I am currently running a setup with Windows 8 Pro and have been able to successfully use this hard drive enclosure with my machine. No hiccups or anything- the drive was recognized and connected right away. Upon seeing the review below, this was a concern of mine as I planned on using Windows 8, but so far I have found no problems in usage. This is a great enclosure for a great price, so definitely don't miss out because of one bad review! Despite it not being on the compatibility list, this product IS compatible with Windows 8.

Does Not work with Windows 8.0

I purchased this drive to work with our new PC which has Windows 8.0 installed... Drive does not work on windows 8.0.... It works fine on Windows 7.0 and XP, but those are older and eventually will not be supported... Talked to the tech supporting product.. He said Windows 8.0 is not listed on packaging so is not supported and they will never produce a patch for that drive to be able to support in future since was not listed on packaging to support... (They will build into their newer cases as developed...) I got a DYNEX external case which was actually slightly cheaper and does work on all operating systems... (I am using with 3T drive so that supports over 2T limit...)

I purchased this item because older one having issues. Older model has power outlet shaped like a PS2 (older mouse) and I had to tape cable to side of drive to keep connected!This has a simple barrel-like connector (thumbs up)!!! This model also detects larger drives up to 3 TB.

Great Product

I needed to access the HDD from my old desktop and this product proved exceptional. The enclosure is solid aluminum, goes together quickly and easily with 2 screws. I plugged into the USB port and the drive popped right up on windows directory and I have been able to access and use all of my files.

I purchased this product when the controller on my previous external hard drive failed. I pulled the drive, put it in this enclosure, powered it up and viola! New fully functional external hard-drive. Could not have been easier.

This is an excellent product. I used it with a 2TB SATA HDD. It works great and the USB 3.0 is very fast.

Nice Product

I bought a Seagate Barracuda 3TB to build a TimeMachine drive but my other enclosures would only show around 800 Gigs. This enclosure showed the full capacity on my iMac. It's been running about a month with no issues. Drive fit is just right (not too tight or loose) and it closes up with just 2 screws. The power brick supplied is one of those that allows you to use both wall plugs if you are plugging directly into a wall socket, but blocks 3 plugs on any given power bar (grrrr). But if it really bothers me I could easily substitute it for another as it's all pretty standard.
