Thinkpad T40 Refurbished Laptop Computer
A full 30 percent thinner than its T30 predecessor, the Thinkpad T40 Refurbished Laptop has a
travel weight of only 4.9 pounds - almost one-half pound lighter - and measures
about 1-inch thin. The redesigned Thinkpad T40 Refurbished Laptop is an ideal machine for mobile
users who need a lightweight notebook with extensive functionality. Thinkpad's legendary Think Strategy of Innovation for business advantage has led to the creation
of the Ultrabay Slim, making ThinkPad the first adopter of the 9.5 mm optical drive
- 31 percent smaller than standard optical notebook drives. Combined with a
unique thermal design to reduce system operating temperature, this innovation
helped slim down the Thinkpad T40 Refurbished Laptop without losing functionality.
The Thinkpad T40 Refurbished Laptop also comes standard with DVD or CD-RW/DVD Combo drives
and ThinkPad's patented UltraNav pointing device, a multi-pointing system that combines
the latest full-function TrackPoint device with a ThinkPad-customized touch pad.
The Thinkpad T40 Refurbished Laptop offers several battery choices to achieve all-day computing,
including up to 9.5 hours of optional battery life when the Thinkpad T40 Refurbished Laptop High
Capacity Battery (standard on select models) is combined with the ThinkPad Ultrabay
Slim Li Polymer Battery. The Thinkpad T40 Refurbished Laptop also features the ThinkPad's integrated HDD
shock absorber. This unique feature helps protect the hard disk drive (HDD)
from the most common types of shock events - providing up to 30 percent more
protection than the system case alone.
Environmental commitment
Lenovo is committed to protecting our natural environment; our products have long been known for being environmentally friendly. And now we're especially proud that our latest notebooks carry the new Energy Star 4.0 label attesting to their superior efficiency and low emissions.
Our latest notebooks are extremely energy efficient. The Energy Star 4.0 label requires that discrete graphics models in idle state consume less than 22W power, integrated graphics models less than 14W. This lowers operating costs, obviously. But it also means less overall energy use and reduced heat emissions — making a Lenovo notebook a wise choice for the environment.

Excellent Laptop. Upgraded laptop to 2gb of ram and it just flys! Runs Vista Ultimate fine (without aero) XP Pro is best bet for pure performance on it. Extended battery last around 4-6 hours usually. Reg battery gets about 1-1.5 hours

I purchased my first T40 directly from IBM on a special ''Open Box'' deal. Once I upgraded the O/S to XP Pro SE, it was a great notebook. I still use it even though it has developed a backlight problem which has forced me to hook up an external monitor until I replace the backlight. When it became time to replace my wife's notebook, which she uses in her law practice, I bought a Referb T40 from Tiger Direct and she has been very pleased with it. I had gotten the XP Pro SE upgrade CD from Lenovo when I purchased my T40 so I just used it to upgrade her O/S to SE. Tying it into my Linksys router was no problem at all as the T40's wireless connection picked up the router right away. I have my T40 on a docking station and am running two printers, an external hard drive and a Zip drive off of it. I've had a number of IBM logo'd Thinkpads over the years and the T40 has been the best one I've owned.

I chose this model for it's light weight, compact size, and low price, while still offering a good balance of features and performance. My experience with the quality has not been good though. I've had to return two of the units because of malfunctions, and am on the 3rd one now and keeping my fingers crossed. The first unit had a flaky screen which glitched out randomly, the second one worked for about a week then the memory or something went bad. The one I have now has very heavy wear on the keyboard with the normal texture of many of the keys worn completely off. I worry about how long it will last as it has obviously seen heavy usage.
These also take a very long time to set up, as they come with a very old version of Windows XP (service pack 1). It takes all day long to download and install the updates to the current XP service pack 2.

DO NOT BUY THIS JUNK. THE T40 has a desogn issue where the case flexes and the video chip loses solder points. The machine freezes at that point. Might as well throw the board in the trash. New board is over 400 bucks. not worth it.

I've had my T40 for about 6 months now. I absolutely love it! Its much lighter then other portables I have used. However my only problem I have had is the keyboard. I had to replace it, but the company though which the warranty is though, was very prompt about sending out a replacement one. I would recommend this laptop to anyone!
