3.5-inch External Hard Drive Enclosure
Just add a drive and go. Ultra’s new portable, stackable external hard drive enclosure features an IDE to USB 2.0 and FireWire (IEEE1394) interface and supports 3.5-inch ATA 133/100/66 HDDs. Its dual FireWire ports give you the opportunity to daisy chain multiple hard drives. That’s right – you can use one, or use more – just stack them up. The Ultra 3.5-inch external hard drive enclosure supports Windows XP, 2000, ME, Vista and Mac 9.0 and above. Built-in 30 mm cooling fan keeps the drive running at maximum performance while protecting it from excess heat. This easy to use external hard drive enclosure is easy to use – it’s hot swappable, Plug and Play. Lay it down, stand it or stack it. Good Enclosure
These are good enclosures and have a nice rubber case. The fan gets noisy after using it for a while, but overall a good enclosure. I have two of these and have used for over a year without any problems.

second unit
Second unit meaning I just added my second and returned the second after it did not switch on. Ultra was very helpful, gave tips, recommended I return it. So far so good.

A good deal for the price
I have purchased three of these units in the past year. One has been formatted and is used as a backup for my netbook. The other two have HDs with old programs that were not compatible with XP, but now I can access and still use them. Assembly is a little tight and, as long as the fans continue to operate, they work just fine for my purposes.

Good where it works
I bought this for both a back-up to my back up drive and a travel back up drive. I put my hard drive in it and then proceeded to hook it up to my laptop. Couldn't get it to work, ever. Hooked it up to my desktop and it worked great. So I have mixed feelings about it: it fulfilled only half of my needs, but it fulfilled that half beautifully... I must say that once I found a sweet spot on my fire-wire card (had to plug directly into the card at the back of the machine, the front-of-machine plug didn't work), the fire-wire connection worked GREAT!

It never worked. I tried on three different computers and it didn't work, I had to return it for a refund.
