Good replacement or backup drive
Hitachi Travelstar 5K500.B 2.5" 500GB Mobile HDD
I bought this disk to be used as a bootable backup drive. I used a special program and transfered my working disk data and complete operating system over to this new drive. It now appears to be working very well.

Good SATA replacement Drive
Hitachi Travelstar 5K500.B 2.5" 500GB Mobile HDD
I purchased this product to replace a smaller drive in my HP Pavilion DV4Z-1000 laptop. The laptop OS is Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit with an AMD Athlon X2 chip. I used Clonezilla free software to clone the 200GB HDD and Windows Disk manager to extend the partition. It took about 3 hours but went smoothly and the new drive is working very well. The new drive was placed in a docking unit by Newer Technology Voyager Q for the cloning. Then the drives were swapped and all rebooted successfully.

Beats my internal drive
Ultra LeatherX USB 3.0 2.5" Hard Drive Enclosure
I bought this to make use of a 7200RPM 320GB Hard Drive i had laying around. File transfer speed is great I've had no problems. The drive seemed very fast, I wanted to know how fast so I ran a HDD test on both the USB3.0 drive and my internal SATA-III drive (same drive parameters as the external). The external drive beat the internal drive, only slightly and probably not statistically significant, but it still beat the internal drive.

Works great until you try to transfer data
Ultra LeatherX USB 3.0 2.5" Hard Drive Enclosure
I got this as a bargain buy with a 1 TB drive. While using clone zilla to clone my secondary internal drive before replacing it with the new 1TB the drive registered just fine in both W7 and under a clone zilla live cd. After about 10 seconds of transferring data the speed would drop from 90 mbs to nothing over the course of 30 seconds. This effect occurred while copying files in W7 and mint and during data transfer under clone zilla. I placed the 1TB drive in a USB2 enclosure and it worked perfectly. After cloning and replacing the original drive I tried 2 other HDD in the Leather Hard Drive Enclosure and neither would transfer data for more than about 10 seconds before having issues. This was the case regardless of the presence of a 5V external power supply for the enclosure. I tried both the included USB DC power cable and a 5V power supply for a USB hub. Didn't work and not recommended. Looks nice, though.
