Cisco IPICS Push to Talk Management Center Product Details
Cisco IPICS can be deployed in mobile command units or in headquarters, branch offices, or operations centers. Leading companies in industries such as transportation, public safety, retail, healthcare, and government use Cisco IPICS to integrate disparate push-to-talk systems with other voice communications systems; improve effectiveness, flexibility, and efficiency of operations; and streamline organizational decision making.
The Cisco IPICS PMC client is a server-administered application that extends radio or hoot and holler reachability to IP reachability. It can be downloaded and installed on desktop and laptop PCs to provide the same push-to-talk capabilities to any IP reachable client. With the Cisco IPICS PMC client software, users can participate in up to eight channels simultaneously and on demand based on privileges, policy, and incident needs as assigned by the operator or dispatch. Channels are available based on roles and responsibilities privileges as assigned by administrator or operator, and channels can be dynamically pushed or pulled as needed. Cisco IPICS PMC clients can access these channels through multicast or over VPN, depending on user location and network design and capabilities. The Cisco IPICS PMC client supports either four or eight channel skins, a mouse or touch screen GUI, and customization options for software skins.
By administering and managing the Cisco IPICS PMC client versions, configurations, and updates, the Cisco IPICS server software helps reduce additional technical support and administrative requirements. Communications between the Cisco IPICS PMC application and the Cisco IPICS server is monitored using a "heartbeat" function, which checks the status of the connection. As additional channels are made available, the Cisco IPICS PMC client will download the updates. If the server is unreachable, the Cisco IPICS PMC client can continue to communicate and operate in an offline mode using its last known good configuration. The easy-to-use interface also allows users to adjust volume and provides transmit (TX) and receive (RX) indicators to improve floor control, usability, and push-to-talk group participation. Users can also take advantage of various keyboard shortcuts such as a latch feature that will "lock" down the talk button, thereby simplifying push-to-talk operations. In summary, the Cisco IPICS PMC is a highly customizable application that is a key component of the Cisco IPICS vision to deliver push-to-talk everywhere.
