The D820 was the heart of my first ''build from parts'' project and I'm extremely pleased. Buy a high quality fan and you'll have no heat issues. Intel's Desktop Utility allows me to monitor CPU temp (43-50C) and other readings for my D945PVS board. This is our main business computer and it is constantly multi-tasking. Also superb with video and games - just a great CPU value!

Worst Intel CPU i have ever bought. Not to mention it stays hot all the time around 52C idle and max load up to 70C+. After a year with this all i can say is it is a piece of junk. Multitasking is a joke. Half my games now cant even play now. If your going to get a Pentium D get the 9xx edition, they use the 65nm processor type and stay cooler, and have 4mb cache. Was good for about 3 months then went to crap. DONT BUY IT!!!

Nice chip, however major heat issues. After contacting Intel they sent me another fan for free in 2 days. They thought my heat problems were because of a faulty fan. However, it appears to be a problem with the inadequate fans they ship with the D 820. My processor at idle was running at 63-68 degrees celsius in a brand new case with two 12cm case fans running at full. Max temp for this processor is 65 celsius, and when running at close to full load I would jump to 75 degrees easily. I ended up buying a Zalman CPU fan and my CPU now sits comfortably at 45 degrees celsius and won't go higher than 55 degrees. I would recommend buying the OEM version if you want to buy this processor; save your money and buy a better heatsink/fan.

This is a great chip, I over clocking it to 4.2Ghz and it ran fine. Major concerns were Temp. This puppy is rated for 65C (90Watts) and I was running it at 70 to 75 overlocked so if anybody is thinking of over clocking this chip you better be able to shell out a lot of money for a water or peltier based cooling system.

i do not know what the other guys are having problems with. about i got the hp media centerpcm7160n. This features a 2.8 ghz pentium d. I got such a good deal on boxing day. I have worked with manydual core processors and this one would be at the top. intel is right about 2.8 ghz. runs any game at ease, very quiet.

holy freaking WOW!! I was blown away at the performance of this little marvel! You really have to see it in action to believe it! Would have been 5 stars but the Intel heatsink is NOISY and INEFFICIENT! runs at 50 C no load and up to 75 C when gaming!! Too scared to overclock this baby as of yet. I don't advise getting the retail version, get the OEM version and a GOOD HEATSINK!

Speedy, powerful processor. But be careful, make sure your motherboard can enable the Dual Core feature. Because of chipset limitations, you may only be able to harness a portion of the horsepower available!
