experience.

I've been using this card for over a year now connected via optical S/PDIF with my Pioneer receiver and the Dolby Digital Live feature works very nicely for movies and DVDs as well as most games. I have encountered recurring problems with some games, however. The drivers for this card are pretty poorly written and do not properly support EAX, causing hard lock-ups when a game tries to use advanced EAX features. If the game does not allow you to disable this, it can become unplayable unless you switch to another sound card. Turtle Beach offers terrible driver support and haven't updated the Windows XP drivers for over 2 years, so I doubt this problem will ever be addressed. When I bought the card, it was the best solution for live encoding of surround sound, but there are better cards out there now. I'd recommend you look elsewhere before considering this card and its poorly-supported drivers.

I've been using this card for almost a year now, and I just transfered it into my new PC after having lots of crappy sound output from the X-fi PCI-e Card I was using.
The drivers for XP are a bit better than Vista, Vista's are a bit quirky, but you can still get surround sound sorta if you fiddle with the settings. Only 32 bit drivers so far, so if you need 64 bit drivers you will have to use X-Plosion and X-Mystique drivers which actually do work for the Turtle beach card, but lack the features of the Turtle beach drivers.
I wasn't going to write a review, but after the crappy onboard sound from my latest MB and than the crappy sound from the X-fi, I figured I should give my thumbs up for this sweet deal of a card. With optical 5.1 output, it makes almost every other sound card garbage unless you want to go crappy multichannel analog output.
A thing to note: remember to download the volume control program so you can control the volume when using digital output (winxp)

Center channel not working with alsa 1.0.16. Other then that, this is the best sound card I have heard!
Way less hassle to get up and running then more common sound cards. Detects as a C-Media CMI8768-MC8.

I must be the odd man out. Card never worked. Been doing this for a while now, and sound cards used to be the easiest thing to upgrade. Have a great XFX mobo with onboard Realtek surround, Intel dual core proc, and brand new surround speakers. NEVER got sound out of this card. Uninstalled all the original drivers, many clean installs, reinserted card many times, followed all TB faq's...tried everything - no sound...I draw the line at 10-15 hours of install for a sound card. Should've taken 15 minutes.
