ok so i drool at a better hammer then i have, but as the owner of a 4000+ clawhammer that clocks 3.2 GHz(stock cooling) just felt like clarifying yateball's very ignorant statement.. ''go with the Athlon 64 4000+ instead... And if you look into it, the 4000+ IS a FX-55 remanufactured, <--**the a4000 hammer was the fx-51 that never went mainstream** you will NOT get that much more performance with this fx-55 than the 4000+ (he failed to mention the main diff is the threads being unlocked on the fx, and thats what your paying the xtra for)

Purely for the enthusiast as there are better values in the CPU market. However, you won't find a faster line of processors then AMD's FX series. The FX-55 is priced marginally lower than the slightly faster FX-57 which makes it the best deal of the FX series. The processor is also a great overclocker - with appropriate cooling, memory timings and voltage settings, you can overclock the FX-55 to around 3 ghz. As the FX line was bred for gaming, I recommend this processor to gamers and enthusiasts looking for a good processor for a $2,500 to $3,000 high-end machine.

Folks, if you are considering getting this processor, go with the Athlon 64 4000+ instead... ok, granted this CPU does rock, but so does the 4000+. And if you look into it, the 4000+ IS a FX-55 remanufactured, you will NOT get that much more performance with this fx-55 than the 4000+, certainly not worth more than double the price

This is a fantastically speedy processor. Great for gamers who want the highest framerates possible. However, there are some downsides. Being just a single core CPU, you will not get the overall system ''smoothness'' that dualcore give you. Not a problem when you are just running a game, but it becomes a little annoying when multitasking. Also, the FX line of AMD cpus seem a tad overpriced for the performance. The FX cpus are for folks looking for the absolute best. Just know you can find better bang for your buck with something like an AMD Athlon 64 4000+. The FX cpus are more for prestige I think.
