Software is not plug and play. With xp, you need to install the software, then during the hardware installation, you need to select ''choose from specific location'' and brows for the driver to install it. Not very user friendly. Once software was installed it worked great. High transfer rate, no dis-connects. Great value over all, just need to work on the software issue.

This cable didn't work for me. I wanted to transfer files from my laptop to a new desktop. Both run XP pro and are fully updated. I spent 2 hours trying to get them to communicate with each other, tried the driver included with cable, downloaded newest driver online and none of it worked. I got the blue screen twice while trying to get the computers to talk to each other over the cable. If you look at the reviews, the ones that say this cable work are a year old. I suspect that a windows update over the past year is causing the problem. An easier cheaper method to transfer files is either to get an external harddrive or to use a network cable between computers and set up a LAN. I thought that it would be easier with this cable but the LAN actually takes less time after all of the installing, reinstalling and final lack of function in this cable.

This cable is not for transferring data from an XP system to a vista system. When trying to install the software on either system, major warnings come up. I donated it to the thrift store.

Great product. Works well, good transfer rates. Software requires some jumping-through-hoops, but nothing rediculous. Also the software comes on one of those mini discs, and my friends computer had trouble reading it. Otherwise satisfactory. Thanks TD.

What Is USB 2.0?
USB 1.1 was great when it was introduced almost a decade ago. But
the newer USB 2.0 transfers data dramatically faster - up to 40 times
quicker. Plus, USB 2.0 provides additional bandwidth for multimedia and
storage applications, which are growing larger every year. Also to your
advantage is the fact that USB 2.0 is forward and backward compatible with
USB 1.1, which means that cables and connectors made for the original USB
configuration will also work perfectly in a USB 2.0 port, though some newer
devices are specifically designed for USB 2.0. It is always a good
idea to verify the version of USB supported by each device you want to use.
