Got this in a barebones kit and am very disappointed with the noise level. Tried having the tower on my desk and it's way too loud! In looking at the specs for other CPU fans, it looks like this one's dbA rating is double from many others. I wouldn't recommend it.

This CPU cooler worked great... until for no apparent reason the fan module refused to operate correctly. Sometimes I would look and see the rotor barely hanging on for dear life as it spun constantly BELOW 500 rpm even during heavy gaming and very soon after it just stopped working altogether. I suspect it was defective to begin with but nevertheless I won't be taking my chances. All in all, when it did work properly it kept my CPU(Pentium D 840 3.20 GHz) phenominally cool with the addition of a 120mm fan mounted on the back and an 80mm in the front of my Ultra Wizard case. Awesome fan if you can get one that works.

Using it with my Intel e6600, keeping it at 35-37C. No overclocking.
Extremely quiet, i can't even tell my computer is running.

I run an intel d core 3.4 and basically the fan keeps my processor at whatever the room temp is under various loads. I've never had a heat problem with this fan, if you do have a heat problem, your case must not be ventilated properly or you have messed up the easy installation of this fan. The fan is a bit loud, the noise is really the vast amount of air this thing is moving. Anyone with a high performance machine should not hesitate to purchase if keeping your processor cool is the priority.. I rated the features low because they should have put a manual speed control on this.. I'd pay an extra 10 for that feature. I'm sure you could rig something up... You can control it for on and off in your Bios if available to you (i have not seen an rpm setting anywhere) but I did not like that because the processor temp would vary so much and the fan cools it immediatly causing alot of on off cycles.... not sure but I'm guessing the more constant you keep the temp the better.

This fan is great but the installation was a problem. I have installed over 10 various types of fans but this was the most difficult. The instructions said to remove the paper from the adhesive and place on top of the CPU. Mine fell off the first time so I placed 4 mounting lugs on the motherboard like the ones used to mount the motherboard to the case. Then attached the fan to the lugs. This worked great but the instructions again were not very good at showing how to make a good secure attachment

I got this as part of a Barebones kit with an Intel PD 805 2.66GHz processor and Intel D945GCCRL MOBO. I have built 2 other PCs before so I know how to install a CPU fan. It went in easy but the BIOS is telling me the CPU is running 62 c at idle. That's way to high. I am going to try using some different thermal paste and see if that makes a difference.

This fan is large, and at full speed, very loud. On the other hand, it will cool the CPU rapidly when it is under high load in just seconds. The baseplate under the CPU is a bit of a tight fit in the Ultra MicroFly box, but is easy to install if you do it before attaching the mobo to the tray. The height and width is no problem even in a SFF box with a mATX card. In my system (PD 805 2.66 MHz) the fan idles most of the time, and the CPU stays between 40-45 deg C. On the plus side, it attaches with screws and a baseplate on the other side of the mobo, so it will stay there--no cheap plastic clips. A little packet of metallized grease is included, but I sprung for the OCZ silver thermal paste.

I only had one problem. Someone (I refuse to use my name) didn't follow the directions for installation. Once that was fixed, It has run like a charm. I've even ordered a second one for my second machine. The only noise I've gotten from either one is when they first start up for one second. After that, they quiet down and make no noticeable noise.
I've been working with PCs and networks for more than 22 years and haven't run into a better cooling system. I think the fan is great.

As long as the fan speed is controlled by the temperature of the chip (through the MB BIOS) this is a very quiet fan. It does get loud when the computer is performing a chip-intensive process, but %95 of the time I can barely hear it.
It also has a very good mounting system (which is probably standard for the socket#) with no awkward lever-locking systems.

The loud/fast fan is controllable by the BIOS. Mine was set to ''Always On'' by default, and I was able to set it to 3 levels slower, with ''smart'' speed, as detected by heat monitoring. It's nice and queit now.
