After well over a thousand scans I have found this scanner to do a fantastic job. Took a little getting used to and the software was a little tricky, but once I have a good profile set, it churned through a ton of slides quite quickly.
The a year of retouching and color correcting in Photoshop and I now have my old slides in digital format and love it.
Great scanner for the price

I started with a Nikon LS2000, which developed the infamous lines on the scans. Then used a Polaroid SCSI scanner. When the CCD on it died, I bought this unit. Scans are not of the quality of the LS-2000, but more than adequate for my purposes. Scanning is quick, and the software does a good job. Manual advance is a bit of a nuisance, but speeds up the scanning process. Focus and vignetting are the weak points. Colour is good.

Excellent quality of scans for the money. Maybee the 7200 image scan is not necessary unless you really want good resolution since it makes large 2-4MB files. Usually the 3600 resolution is fine. So, if you only need 3600 resolution, a cheaper scanner might due just fine.

Hard to rate this unit objectively as I have been trying to get a sharp scan for the last year or more, and have never gotten one that was remotely in focus, although the slides print out razor sharp via convetional methods. No help from the manufacturer, although they did respond to one of my e-mails to their help desk after FOUR MONTHS. Nothing after that. This unit is not even at toy level quality. I no longer buy from this on-line vendor either. Be careful and research other scanner options and tech support carefully in your search for a scanner.

Bought this scanner about a year ago from TigerDirect. Fantastic product. Colours are true even on very old slides. Had some problems when I upgraded to Vista but got it working okay.

My OpticFilm 7200 arrived a few weeks ago. Its color performance has never impressed me. Recently, it starts getting much darker on one side of the view.
The worst is their support. People there does not take the leading of a support call. Difficult to get through. I am now trying to return it back to Tigerdirect.

This thing is breathtaking in its simplicity and performance. I shopped many brands, some into the thousands of dollars, so I was not sure what to expect. Plug it in, use the supplied Silverfast to scan, (I use Microsoft Dig. Imaging to process) and you get nearly instant results. I can scan a box of 40 slides at 1800 dpi in 30 minutes. I have never been more pleased with an electronic purchase. If you need to scan the old family slides quickly and easily, buy this baby today!

This is everything I expected and more. It is a great device. It's easy to install and easy to use. After 2000 slides without a glitch, I'm pleased. It's a 5 star product across the board.

With all the positive reviews of this scanner, I felt that I should write a little about its cons. For the most part, the scanner works GOOD (not great). It's fine for digitizing old family pictures to email, but think twice if you intend on getting finely balanced pictures. In particular, the dynamic range of the scanner is pretty low. That means that darker areas tend to show up as black. This is fine for archiving old prints, but if you want to get even a half-good scan for semi-pro or advanced photography, then plan on spending a lot of photoshop time. The edges of the frame are also subject to slight vignetting. Finally, this scanner just cannot handle some types of slide film. While negatives usually come out pretty nice if you play with the settings, Fujichrome Velvia does not scan well at all. This is a shame, because Velvia is an absolutely beautiful film. On some frames, the focus was off, and on others the contrast was absolutely terrible.

Just received the scanner a week ago and have scanned 100+ slides. Works great!! The SilverFast software that came with the scanner works great also!! Great buy for the money! It's very simple to use and the software automatically takes out most of the dust and scratches.
